Shock Wave Therapy

There is a steadily growing literature base for variations on the theme on this therapy. It goes by several different names and is supported by numerous clinical and lab based trials. I will try and provide a summary of this material, though inevitably, this section will need to grow and be updated as new information becomes available. I might add at this point, that Shockwave Therapy is not something that I have used in clinical practice - so I am passing on information rather than advocating it as an intervention.

I currently have almost 1600 references to material in the published literature - covering the full range of shockwave therapies, but clearly, you are not likely to want a list of 1600 refs - just to say that they are out there if you want to go find them. I will try and include some key refs for those that want / need them, but it might help to know that there are some NICE Guidelines which can be found at :

www.nice.org.uk/guidance/index.jsp?action=byID&r=true&o=11187

The guidance is dated November 2005 - so does not include sme of the more recent publications, but does make for a useful overview should that be what you are looking for.

and an International Society for Medical Shockwave Treatment liked at :

I will keep to the musculoskeletal aspects of the therapy rather than try and run through the full range of medical applications - I am sure that if you are interested in the others areas, you can use those links above and easily chase up further information.
